BOTANICA 1.1: VANDA TRICOLOR & OTHER FINDINGS
Solo exhibition Lir Space, Yogyakarta 2015 Curator: Mira Asriningtyas During my residency in Jogjakarta, I did a short ‘expedition’ and journal writing to track common plants in Kaliurang, a small town near Merapi Mountain. There were some endemic plants in Kaliurang which had interesting pattern of spreading. The journey was begun by visiting flower farms, hike into the forest, tracking through the main roads, also visiting and talking to several people who lived in the neighborhood.
In this little expedition I discovered a uniformity in the types of plants which grown in each house also interesting transfer method from the public spaces into domestic areas. Vaguely, appeared a map of plant spreadings which heavily affected by human involvement. The relationship between men and the nature became a looking glass towards the depth of cultures and lifestyle of the individuals in Kaliurang.Through the endemic plants, patterns of communications, interactions and distributions of knowledge in the area were successfully reflected. ![]()
